Cybersecurity company, Surfshark, has announced the launch of its web content blocker, a new software that protects users browsing online. Those installing the software on behalf of family members can filter websites based on certain categories, affecting connected devices and locking anything considered harmful behind 2FA. The system is designed to protect family members from online dangers while browsing on their mobile devices.
“No matter whether you want to protect your children, help an elderly relative avoid fraud, or maintain a shared home without disruption, it is important to have clear, fair boundaries that are actually applied,” said Justas Pukys, Senior Product Manager at Surfshark. Surfshark created the web content blocker so “people can turn control into care without tracking involved,” the company said.
The web content blocker lets users access selected content categories, maintain their privacy and keep control on what appears on-screen.
Traditional tracking applications typically track user activity so it can block or filter content. However, this means browsing history is tracked, involving the collection of personal data, and analysis of online behaviour. That has the potential to compromise an individual user’s privacy.
Surfshark’s web content blocker operates without monitoring the websites visited or accessing browsing activity. “With the web content blocker, you can protect all connected devices, choose custom lists for each family member or device, and help them improve online security simply while respecting everyone’s privacy,” revealed Pukys.
Surfshark’s web content blocker is currently available on iOS and Android platforms for Surfshark One and One+ plan users, with plans for expansion to further platforms on the horizon.
