Employees want AI in performance management
A surprising trend is emerging in performance management. 87% of employees believe algorithms could provide fairer feedback than their current manager, while 57% think humans are more biased than AI when making compensation decisions.
Employee demand creates an opportunity for IT leaders to implement AI systems that remove bias from performance reviews and provide consistent, objective feedback. However, humans must remain in the loop to validate AI recommendations and handle complex interpersonal situations.
Upskilling IT teams for AI responsibility
Managing AI systems requires new skills from IT teams. Organisations should invest in training that covers AI ethics, bias detection, and responsible AI deployment. In other words, IT leaders should focus on building internal expertise rather than relying on external vendors. The upskilling effort addresses the expertise gap directly. Why? Because without internal knowledge, teams can’t evaluate risks, ensure compliance, or adapt AI systems to real-world use.
Overcoming change management challenges
Implementing AI-powered workplaces creates change management challenges. Employees may resist new technologies, fear job loss, or struggle to adapt to AI-assisted workflows.
A 2023 study found that 84% of change practitioners were at least moderately familiar with AI tools. By 2024, that number had dropped to 77%, largely due to uncertainty and expertise gaps driven by the AI boom. New, more powerful tools mean less familiarity. IT leaders must address this challenge head-on, providing targeted training, closing knowledge gaps, and communicating clearly about what AI will and won’t do.

The pace of change in AI workplace technology makes staying current nearly impossible without direct industry engagement as what works today may be obsolete in 6 months.
